Food Allergies

If you are a member of the conventional health profession, this article will challenge everything you were taught about food allergies. Many health conditions are caused by allergies such as ADD, hyperactivity, arthritis, acne, irregular heart beat, bedwetting, incontinence and more.

The medical approach views it as a flaw in the body.  I totally disagree with that.nbsp;  I believe that the symptoms produced by the body are its way of compensating for deficiencies.

Many health conditions are caused by allergies.

Hay fever , hyperactivity, aggression, eye inflammation, itching, stomachache, respiratory congestion, acne and hives are what most people think of when it comes to allergic reactions.  But there are so many more.

For instance, according to Dr. Doris Rapp (in her book) IS THIS YOUR CHILD, did you know that you may be experiencing an allergic reaction if you suffer from arthritis (sometimes caused by allergies to the nightshade family - tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, tobacco etc.),  ADD (often aggravated if not caused by a milk, wheat or yeast allergy),  Bedwetting (can be caused by a milk allergy), or  Irregular heart beat (can be a corn allergy)?  The list is virtually endless.

In this article I hope to help you understand what an allergy is, what an allergy indicates and how to help allergies.

Probably the very best book I have read about allergies is THE ULTIMATE HEALING SYSTEM by Dr. Donald Lepore ND

Dr. Lepore calls a food allergy "Metabolic antagonism" because food allergies are caused by a lack of a nutrient(s) necessary for absorption and metabolism of a particular food .   The deficient nutrient causes the body to react against the food ingested.

In addition to the basic allergic response note the unusual allergic symptoms.

Typical Unusual Allergic Symptom
List of Reaction Producing Foods
Most Common Deficiency Indicated Mineral, Vitamin, Amino acid
Easily sunburn, tired and exhausted in summer #1 Wheat Magnesium, L-Histidine, Fatty Acids
Bed wetting, mucus, inner ear problems, ADD, hyperactivity #2 Milk Products Vitamin D, Potassium, L-Asparagine

Colic #9 Oatmeal, Sesame seeds or oil Iron, Folic Acid

When trying to determine food allergies, keeping  a journal is essential.  Because the allergic reaction does not always happen immediately.  So in order to find a pattern the journal is needed.

Another indication of food allergies or sensitivity is to take a base pulse (before eating anything) and retaking  the pulse 15 minutes after the suspected food has been ingested.

If the pulse has increased by 10 beats per minute then you are probably allergic to that food.

Although commonly thought of as food, I would also like to mention sulfites, MSG, food colorings, preservatives and Aspartame (Nutrasweet) as possible allergens.  (Personally I would categorize them as poisons).

Most children with food allergies (some say 90%) are unable to digest milk and wheat.

Note that I do not include peanuts although people do experience responses.  As far as I know, it is thought that the reaction is not caused by a deficiency, but by an inhibition of enzyme production from the peanuts.

Also I did not include shell fish (common problem for many).  There are indications that this is related to the iodine sensitivity which can be linked to thyroid, pH imbalance or liver function.

While most conventional practitioners, suggest abstinence of the offending food as a course of treatment, I suggest correcting the deficiency.  My reasoning, is that these deficiencies can lead to other health concerns.  An allergic response isn't the body screwing up but rather its way of flagging your attention to its need.

The focus of this site is to "educate, validate, and suggest alternative methods for the treatment of health conditions," which are not readily available to those who go through mainstream programs.
